We depart from Cape Town early morning traveling along the coast to the seaside town of Hermanus. We will then spend some time visiting a few wine farms in the valley and a lunch stop. We then     continue inland through the rolling farmland of the Overberg to the historical town of Swellendam with its wonderful Cape Dutch Architecture and the majestic Langeberg mountains as its natural backdrop! Here we will overnight in at a wonderful country estate. Dinner is at a recommended restaurant in Town.

 

OVERNIGHT | SWELLENDAM

After a relaxing breakfast we continue on our road trip with the destination Knysna, the jewel of the Garden Route. We arrive at Knysna around noon where we will enjoy lunch at the Knysna waterfront. The afternoon consists of visiting attractions in the region with a visit to the Knysna Heads, gateway to the Feather Bed Nature Reserve and the Knysna Lagoon, a walk with Elephants is also on the cards when we pop in at the Knysna Elephant Sanctuary. After a thoroughly absorbing day we return to Knysna with dinner at a recommended local restaurant in Town.

OVERNIGHT | KNYSNA

After breakfast we depart Knysna passing through the town of Plettenberg Bay and the region known as Garden of Eden on our way to the Tsitsikamma Forest. This is a Full day of attractions, we will visit Birds of Eden which is the world’s biggest enclosed Avery, the Crags with the wonderful craft market and factory shops, and then the World’s Highest Bungy Jump at the Bloukrans Bridge with a free fall of 218 meters! The country inn is quite delightful and you will enjoy dinner at the hotel after an event filled day.  

 

OVERNIGHT | STORMS RIVER

After a relaxing breakfast you have the choice of visiting Storms River Mouth with a hike to the     suspension bridge or the Canopy Tour where you will zip-line through the giant indigenous trees way above the forest floor, this is a highly recommended. After the morning activities and lunch we depart from the Tsitsikamma at around 14h00 and make our way to Port Elizabeth with a coffee stop at the world-famous surfing town known as Jeffery’s Bay, with arguably the world’s most perfect surfing waves. We arrive at Port Elizabeth in the afternoon where you can go directly to the airport or a hotel.

 

OVERNIGHT | PORT ELIZABETH or AIRPORT DROP OFF

We depart from Cape Town following the national road to Swellendam before joining the famous Route 62 to Oudtshoorn. Along the way we pass through some enchanting towns and imposing mountain passes. Lunch will be at Barrydale before arriving in Oudtshoorn during the afternoon. We then visit the Cango Caves for a guided expedition into this subterranean wonder of nature. After thi captivating experience we arrive at our overnight destination where you can relax before dinner.

 

OVERNIGHT | OUDTSHOORN

With a hearty Karoo breakfast under your belt it is time to visit an Ostrich farm where you will get to know these strange curiosities of nature intimately. After this we take you on a driving tour of Oudtshoorn pointing out the historical landmarks with a generous supply of interesting information. We then travel over the Outeniqua Mountains to begin the coastal part of the Garden Route. After    numerous photo stops we arrive in Knysna where we will explore some of the local attractions. Dinner will be at the Knysna Waterfront.

 

OVERNIGHT | KNYSNA 

After departing Knysna we proceed along the Garden Route and the day is spent enjoying a variety of the attractions in the area. A forest walk walk with Elephants as well as Birds of Eden and Monkeyland are all part of the days entertainment.  The Crags with its factory shops and craft markets are also part of the day.  After a full day we arrive in the Tsitsikamma Forest and this will be our base for the next two nights.

From your base in the heart of the Tsitsikamma Forest you can enjoy a variety of exceptional activities. Within a short drive of your country retreat there is the worlds highest Bridge Bungy Jump at 218     metres. There are also more serene activities in the form of hikes to the Big Tree and a trip to Storms River Mouth in the Tsitsikamma National Park. The Canopy Tours and Segway Tours are highly recommended. After an action packed day we return to your country hotel where you can sit back and enjoy this unique setting.

After breakfast you have the morning free to either relax a little or participate in a forest hike. We     depart Storms River at mid-morning making our way to Port Elizabeth. Lunch will be at the famous surfing Town of Jeffery’s Bay known for the perfect surfing wave. We arrive in Summer Strand, Port Elizabeth Airport in the late afternoon. 

 

OVERNIGHT | PORT ELIZABETH AIRPORT

Depart from CAPE TOWN and follow the Coastal road to the seaside town of Hermanus. After some wine tasting and lunch we continue inland to the historical town of Swellendam where we will overnight in the luxury of an exclusive country estate. Dinner is at a recommended restaurant in the historical main street of the town.

After a leisurely breakfast and an optional walk around the estate we depart from Swellendam making our way to the town of Oudtshoorn famous for the Cango Caves and Ostriches. The drive to Oudtshoorn takes us through some really interesting countryside and you will be amazed at some of the mountain passes and the exotic rock formations that we will see. We reach Oudtshoorn in the       afternoon where we will do a driving tour of the town before arriving at our overnight destination. After the long drive you are free to enjoy the location before dinner at the unique restaurant.

 

OVERNIGHT | OUDTSHOORN

As always the day begins with breakfast followed by a trip to the famous Cango Caves where you will go on a guided tour into this subterranean wonder. After the caves we take you to an Ostrich Show Farm where you will learn many interesting facts about these unique creatures.  Lunch is enjoyed at the farm Restaurant. After lunch we depart from the arid Karoo heading over the Outeniqua Mountains to the coast and the start of the coastal Garden Route. Overnight is at Knysna which is one of the   famous towns along the route.

 

OVERNIGHT | KNYSNA

The day begins with a trip to the Knysna waterfront and then the Heads which is the entrance to the lagoon. Other attractions on the day, Birds of Eden, the world’s largest enclosed aviary, the Crags with its selection of interesting factory shops offering quality items at really good prices and Monkeyland. We then cross the border into the Eastern Cape where we arrive at Storms river in the heart of the Tsitsikamma Forest, our home base for the next two nights.

You have the morning to enjoy the village before we depart for Mossel Bay. Retracing some of the route we will stop at Plettenberg Bay and then Mossel Bay with it’s fascinating maritime museum. We then arrive at a Safari Lodge and you will enjoy a guided game drive into the bush to see some African Wildlife. On your return dinner is enjoyed in an authentic African restaurant with views over the bushveld.

 

OVERNIGHT | SAFARI LODGE

You are woken up early for your morning excursion into the bush to see any of the animals that you might have missed the day before.  On your return to the lodge you will enjoy a great breakfast on the deck. We depart the game lodge around mid-morning and make our way across the farm land of the Overberg. The route takes us over the Hottentots Holland mountains with plenty of scenic stops. After a full and absorbing Garden Route experience we arrive at Cape Town in the late afternoon.

Weather can always be an issue in Cape Town, normally the conditions are more favorable for the mountain in the morning! Lunch will be at the V & A Waterfront before you depart for the island.

A Full day spent traveling around the Cape Peninsula with all its fabulous history and attractions. You will visit Hout Bay Harbour with its open air craft market, Chapman’s Peak Drive and Simon’s Town. Meeting the African Penguins at Boulders Beach is also something special. After lunch we arrive at Cape Point where you can enjoy some lovely short hikes. The most popular trail is from Cape Point to the Cape of Good Hope which is the most South Westerly tip of Africa!  Other highlights are Baboons, coastal towns, Mountain Passes and much more. After our day on the Cape Peninsula we travel into the Winelands where you will overnight.

No trip to Cape Town is complete without a visit to the wine country with its vast and verdant beauty, historical wine estates and towns. On this day we will sample wines in the Stellenbosch Valley as well as the Somerset West region. Some of the wine farms that we recommend are Vergenoegd, Ernie Els Wines, Rustenberg and Lourensford Wine Estate all of which produce top quality wine. You will have the opportunity to purchases wines that you can enjoy during the overland part of your Garden Route adventure. After a Full day of wine tasting and lots of other interesting things we arrive at the town of Swellendam.

Waking up at a country estate you have the choice of a morning walk through the grounds before enjoying a leisurely breakfast. On this day we make our way inland to the karoo town of Oudtshoorn famous for the Cango Caves and Ostrich farms. Lunch will be along the route at the town of Barrydale before we arrive in Oudtshoorn in the afternoon. After checking in a another fabulous overnight location you are free to relax before dinner.

The day starts with a visit to Cango Ostrich Farm where you will have a chance to learn more about these fascinating birds, you will get a chance to touch them and to even ride one if you feel like it. After your encounter with the Ostriches we have a light lunch at the farm.  We then head for Cango Caves and a guided trip into this natural wonder. With the caving experience there is a choice to do the adventure route which is a little more technical and longer. After this we leave the Karoo region heading over the Outeniqua Mountains to Knysna and the start of the coastal Garden Route.

We will then explore Knysna and the surrounding area before we continue with the road trip through the Garden Route. Highlights of the day is a visit to Monkey Land and Birds of Eden which is the world’s largest enclosed aviary. We also visit the Crags with its selection factory shops which offer quality items at really good prices. After these attractions we continue across the border into the Eastern Cape. Our destination is the Tsitsikamma Forest and Storms River.

Jeffery’s Bay is regarded as having the perfect surfing wave! After this we continue to Port Elizabeth where you will depart for Johannesburg.

The Valley has a combination of first world experiences mixed with old world charm. Groot Constantia Wine Farm 1685 is just one of the many attractions that make for a thoroughly absorbing and enjoyable day.

After a day of wine sampling we head over the mountains to the charming seaside town of Hermanus.

 

OVERNIGHT | HERMANUS

On this day we depart from the Hermanus early morning, for a meeting with the worlds most feared and misunderstood predators, the “GREAT WHITE SHARK!” You will experience Shark Cage Diving at Gansbaai which is about an hour’s drive from Hermanus.  The boat trip to Dyer Island and Shark Alley takes about half an hour and then you wait for the predators to arrive! This just could be the highlight of your South African trip! If you are not keen to go into the cage then you are able to    observe all the action from the deck, this is also most exciting!  After the shark diving we head back to Hermanus but not before sampling some craft beer at the Birkenhead Breweries. The afternoon is spent exploring the town.

We arrive at Oudtshoorn in the afternoon where you can relax at a country retreat before enjoying a fine dinner at a local restaurant.

We depart Storms River mid-morning for our trip to Port Elizabeth. On the way to PE we will stop at Jeffery’s Bay which is one of the world’s best surfing spots and hosts a number of surfing events which attracts the biggest names in the sport. Jeffery’s Bay is regarded as having the perfect surfing wave!  After this we continue to Port Elizabeth where you will meet the Safari Lodge shuttle and this is the start of your luxury African Safari at a Private Game Reserve.

A wake-up call from the comfort of your tented camp as your game ranger beckons you to join him on an early morning safari drive into the bush. The Private Game Reserve consists of 18000 acres of dramatic african landscapes with an abundance of wildlife. You are likely to encounter Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo as well as many other African species. The region is free of malaria and the guides are highly trained. All the excursions are in open land rovers allowing you the opportunity to capture some great camera shots.

Today you will join an excursion into the internationally famous  Addo Elephant Park. This national park is home to the highest density of African Elephants in the world. The Private Tented Camp has traversing rights into this national park and you will once again be guided by a qualified wildlife ranger. Apart from an abundance of African Wildlife Addo Elephant Park also boasts five of  Southern Africa’s seven Biomes, Bush-veld to Savannah!  After another exhilarating day in the African Bush you return to your tented camp to relax before dinner under the stars!

 

OVERNIGHT | TENTED SAFARI CAMP

You have come to your final day on Safari and you have the choice of joining your game ranger on a last early morning excursion into the bush.  This is your opportunity to prehaps tick off that elusive animal that you have not yet seen. On your return to camp it is time to reflect on the previous days and indeed weeks.  You would have had the chance to visit world famous attractions, dive with Great White Sharks, jump off a bridge on a bungy cord, and see Africa’s wildlife up close! And that is just a fraction of the overall experience! All that is left is a transfer to Port Elizabeth Airport to start your homeward bound journey, taking with you many wonderful memories and photographs.
